On May 2 & 3 KFS Paddle Sports/Kayak Fishing Stuff will be sponsoring the Fifth Annual "Kayak Fish 4 Conservation" Fundraising Tournament. Hundreds of contestants will be attending the multi-day event in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge - all within the shadow of the Manhattan skyline.

In addition to catching fish and having fun, the primary focus of J-Bay is to raise funds for a worthwhile non-profit group: Casting for Recovery. Casting for Recovery provides no-cost fly fishing retreats at locations around the United States, specifically designed for women who have or have had breast cancer. Friends of Gateway is dedicated to protecting, improving, and enhancing public awareness of, and access to the New York metropolitan area's unique National Recreation Area.

Prizes: There are several ways to win prizes at J-Bay. Catching the largest fish with any method, the largest fish caught with a fly rod, or by completing a "Grand Slam" (largest combined catch of striped bass, weakfish, and bluefish). Each contestant will also receive a general raffle ticket which can land them a brand new kayak even if they don't catch any fish at all. Additional raffle tickets will be available to J-Bay contestants and to anyone who attends the on water kayak demo. This year's prizes include kayaks, life preservers, seats, rod holders, tackle, and much more. Prizes have been donated by many of the industries finest companies such as: Wilderness Systems, Hobie Cat, Mysterioso, 3rd Grip, Harken, and at least 25 others.

Kayak fishing is one of the fastest growing Outdoor sports in the world. Kayaks can be bought pre-rigged for fishing, or as many anglers prefer, they can be purchased basic and then rigged by the angler themselves. Rod holders, depth finders, bait tanks, and safety flags are among the common items used to customize fishing kayaks.

This year J-Bay will be a two day event with an on-water kayak demo on Friday and the tournament on Saturday. Sunday is the rain day which, if not needed, can be used as an open fishing day for all to enjoy.
